Last Saturday night we were fortunate to get invited to spend the night at Silcox Hut. Silcox Hut is located on Mt. Hood, above Timberline Lodge and sits on the mountain at 7000 feet. It was built by the WPA in 1939. I’m not a snow or ski person at all, but this seemed like a wonderful opportunity, so off we went. There was a group of 18 of us that spent the night up there. And it included a gourmet dinner prepared by Timberline.
WOW! It was so beautiful. I didn’t enjoy the ride up to Silcox in the Snowcat but once we got up there, it was amazing. This is the Snowcat with the hut in the background.
This is looking back down the mountain towards Timberline Lodge. It was cloudy below, but at the Hut, we had sun.
Here’s all the gals hanging out in the sun. If you went out from behind the Hut, the wind was fierce and the snow was icy.
Here’s the view looking up at Mt. Hood. It looks like it would be so easy to hike up there from here, so deceiving. We had a couple in the group who have both hiked up to the top, one of them several times. They had some amazing stories.
This is the main room in the hut. Isn’t it beautiful?
We had a full moon that night. Eating, drinking and chatting around the fire with that view. Great night. Many thanks to our hosts, Tim and Jewel.
