Recovery Time

First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who sent me such kind and encouraging words. It really does mean a lot when I’m laying in bed, too tired to talk on the phone, and the computer is my connection to the world.

Recovery is coming along nicely. Four days after surgery and I’ve managed to stay awake all day without a nap, take only one dose of pain meds, walk outside for about 20 minutes and the biggest thrill of all, take a shower! Oh the shower; let me wax on about how great it is to take a shower and wash one’s hair. It really is the small things in life.

I have managed to do some knitting, ten minutes here and there, and have finally finished Rick’s first pair of handmade socks.

I picked a pretty sedate yarn for his first pair and I didn’t bother to figure out how to make them match, but I like it better that way. I wasn’t sure how he would like them, but he wore them all day and seemed pretty pleased.

Rick has HUGE feet and these socks took FOREVER. I wasn’t really thinking ahead when I promised the next pair to Liza who has size 11 feet! I’m thinking Christmas present. I bought the yarn for her socks from the Goth Socks gal at Sock Summit and can’t wait to get started. They are going to be awesome.

I had to smile when I read your comment about “Thee Shower”. As a fellow back-packer/hiker, oh how I remember the JOY of a shower. It was almost the best part of the entire trip :)
