Emergence Class

I just got home from Grants Pass, Oregon. I went to teach and lecture at the Mountain Stars Quilters Guild. It was a lovely group and we all had lots of fun. I taught both the Animal Chains class and the Emergence class. The Emergence class is primarily about value gradation and is a nice complement to “The Importance of Value” lecture.

One of the great joys of teaching is seeing the wonderful ideas and color schemes that your students come up with. It is truely inspiring and there were some exciting choices in the class. In this picture, you can see the paste-up of Carols gradation and some of the pieces for one block.

Here are the five blocks she got done by the end of class. You can start to see the gradation of the reds emerging.

Jennifer’s blocks with the paste-up of her gradation. You can tell that you won’t get the full affect of the gradation until you get quite a few blocks sewn. It’s fun to watch the quilts grow and see that happen.

Here are Joanne’s blocks. I think this is going to be very dramatic.

These are Debbie’s blocks. With nine blocks done, you can really see the gradation happening.

I really love teaching this class. It’s a blast. It was a great trip and I wanted to get at least a few pictures up but now it’s time for bed! I’ll get the rest of the Emergence pictures and a couple Animal Chains pictures up in the next few days.

Ooooo…I need to do that class. Gradation can be intimidating.
