It’s been a over a month and a half since I posted that the kitchen was finished. I can’t believe it’s been that long already! We are still getting used to our new kitchen, still finding the best places for everything, and still figuring out the best way to use the space. We love it needless to say. I am very happy with most of my design choices, the lights, the countertops, the paint colors, the tiles, even the knobs. The kitchen looks exactly like I pictured it in my mind. One of the choices Rick and I are super happy with is the decision to put glass fronts in two of the cabinets so that we could showcase the Jadite collection. It breaks up the biggest stretch of cabinets and adds that pop of color. Here are a couple of pictures.
Jadite was so inexpensive when I started collecting it back in college. Plates used to cost a quarter or maybe fifty cents! Nowadays, I can’t afford to buy it. Martha Stewart made it popular back in the nineties and the prices just soared. And then the company that used to make it started reproducing it. So now you have to be careful that you are buying the original stuff, not the new stuff. I’m thankful I was ahead of the curve for once and amassed my collection way back when. It’s funny that when it used to cost next to nothing, we used it all the time. These were our everyday dishes. Now that the collection is worth more, it’s just for show. Crazy. And a special shout out to my Aunt Happy for the new pieces. What a lovely kitchen warming present!
